Chocolate Drop Cookies

So this recipe comes from Betty Crocker circa 1980-ish perhaps?  All I know is this red cookbook is pretty beat up and my mother has had it for a long time!

Chocolate Drop Cookies

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup margarine or butter, softened
  • 1 egg
  • 2 ounces melted unsweetened chocolate (cool), I used semisweet chocolate chips and guessed!
  • 1/3 cup buttermilk or water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose or whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Mix together sugar, butter, egg, chocolate, buttermilk/water, and vanilla.  Stir in flour, baking soda, salt, and nuts.

Drop  dough onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake until almost no indentation remains when touched; ~8-10 minutes. Immediately remove from cookie sheet.  Cool and serve and enjoy!

I dropped the dough into a plastic container to freeze my cookie dough.  I like to take out the dough when I need it to bring cookies to a party or just to snack on myself! 😀

This is a simple but tasty cookie!

See you in the kitchen!
